Pada bagian ini, Usage of Gerund part 2, saya akan membahas penggunaan Gerund setelah bentuk ungkapan (idiom)/expression, seperti :

There is no use. example : It’s no use crying over split milk.
To be lazy. Ex : He is lazy helping me
It’s worth. Ex : It’s worth reading that book
Can’t stand, can’t bear, can’t help, can’t stop. Ex : I can’t stop loving you.
To be used to. Ex : He is used to living in tropical country
to object to. Ex : They object to coming here.
to be accustomed to, to look forward to. Ex Ex : I look forward to seeing you soon.

Dan biasanya gerund juga dipakai setelah kata – kata berikut : mind, finish, avoid, deny, delay, give up, need, learn, understand, admit, enjoy, forgive, want, etc.

Kalau kemarin kitatelah mengetahui apa sih Gerund? Sekarang, adik2 calon peserta usm stan, kita belajar tentang penggunaan Gerund.

Usage of gerund (Penggunaan Gerund) adalah sebagai berikut :

1. Gerund diikuti kata tambahan / kata keterangan (adverb)
example :

Reading well (adverb) is important

Running fast (adverb) is a good sport.

2. gerund sebagai subject
example :

writing letter is my hobby
watching Tv is important

3. Gerund sebagai object
example :

he avoid meeting me
They dislike talking in the class

4. Setelah preposition : under, in, upon,before,on,of,after,by, with, without, etc
example : He can’t live without eating.

5.Setelah article (a atau an)
Example : Listen, there is a knocking at the door

6.Setelah kata ganti penunjuk (demonstrative)
example : That crying is hard
I don’t like this reading.
7.Possessive (kepunyaan)
example : Her coming made me happy

Gerund atau Verbal noun ialah kata kerja yang berbentuk -ing (ing form) yang dipakai sebagai kata benda (noun)

When a verb ends in -ing, it may be a gerund or a present participle. It is important to understand that they are not the same.

When we use a verb in -ing form more like a noun, it is usually a gerund:

Fishing is fun.

When we use a verb in -ing form more like a verb or an adjective, it is usually a present participle:

Anthony is fishing.
I have a boring teacher

Gerund bisa sebagai subject atau sebagai Object.

1. as Subject

example : Swimming is a good exercise

2.as Object

example : He likes dancing.
